The word atlas is derived from Persian, meaning “smooth” or “soft.” Khan Atlas, for centuries, has flourished in the East, particularly as a supreme example of Central Asian craftsmanship.
According to historical sources, the art of weaving atlas fabric began to take shape in the Fergana Valley in the 16th century. By the 19th century, during the Kokand Khanate, it became more widespread and came to be known as “Khan Atlas.” For this reason, its name has been preserved among the people for generations.
Khan Atlas has been used in national clothing not only for women but also for all segments of society. Through it, elegance, high culture, and identity have been expressed.
“Atlas Festival” – a Spiritual and Cultural Lesson for Students.
The “Khan Atlas Festival” held in the university’s “Professors’ Garden” was not only an entertaining event for students but also of great spiritual significance. Organized with the aim of familiarizing students with national heritage, the festival was opened by University Rector M. Yuldashev. In his address, he emphasized that such events inspire love for national heritage in the hearts of young people, foster a sense of responsibility to preserve it, and instill the duty of passing it on to future generations.

The atmosphere of unity and friendship that prevailed at the festival was carried forward by the Designers’ team of the Faculty of Physics and Technological Education with an exhibition of national costumes.

The students skillfully showcased national costumes enriched with aesthetic sensibility and design creativity, harmoniously blending traditional attire with modern fashion.

The award ceremony for the teams that won the sports competitions organized in honor of October 1 — Teachers and Mentors Day — brought a special spirit to the event. Through learning about the history and symbolic meanings of Khan Atlas, the festival aimed to strengthen students’ self-awareness, national pride, and love for the Motherland. All faculties presented exhibitions of national costumes during the festival. At the conclusion of the event, the faculties that achieved victories in various nominations were awarded by the university administration and the trade union committee.

The “Khan Atlas Festival,” which left a warm impression on everyone, can rightly be called a cultural school that imparted knowledge, inspiration, and a sense of national pride to the students.
