The university has an English Access Microscholarship (Access) English language teaching grant program. The English Access Microscholarship (Access) English language teaching grant program, offered by the Embassy of the United States of America in Uzbekistan, provides free English and computer science tuition for two years to students aged 13 to 20 from low-income families who are interested in learning English. The financial value of this program is $45,000, and this amount will be used to implement the planned educational system of the program. The program has been operating since August 2020, based on the cooperation between the US Embassy in Uzbekistan and JSPU. Currently, 36 students are divided into 3 groups and are taking English and computer science classes in this program.
In accordance with the agreement concluded with JSPU and South Korea’s Kyungwong, this year the King Sejong Institute Foundation participated in the international grant competition for the establishment of Korean language centers in Uzbekistan. A total of 9 universities in Uzbekistan applied for this grant, and in the end two higher educational institutions, one of which was Jizzakh State Pedagogical University, were recognized as the winners. Sharipov Shavkat Safarovich, the rector of Jizzakh State Pedagogical University, who was recognized as the winner of this grant competition, was awarded a certificate by the King Sejong Institute Foundation for the establishment of a Korean language center. It was determined that the King Sejong Institute Foundation would allocate funds for the establishment of a Korean language center at JSPU and fully finance the activities of the center. During the conference, the issue of providing the Korean language center to be opened at JSPU with all the necessary equipment and facilities, covering all the expenses of Korean language teachers sent by South Korea to conduct classes, and covering them from this foreign grant allocated to JSPU was discussed. On October 12 of this year, the official opening ceremony of the King Sejong Korean Language Center was held at JSPU.
JSPU and the University of Portsmouth, UK, participated in the “English Language and Inclusive Partnership” grant program and won the grant. This grant project aims to achieve the following goals:
• Improving the practice of teaching English at educational institutions or specialized faculties at universities for the training of English teachers.
• Introducing innovative approaches to teaching and learning English at the PRESETT level.
• Introducing innovative approaches to teaching and learning English at the PRESETT level.
• To improve English language teaching skills at the PRESETT level and build the capacity of teachers to join professional networks.
• To contribute to long-term and sustainable institutional change that promotes the training of good quality English language teachers.
• To generate new knowledge on barriers and facilitators to the participation of disadvantaged groups in PRESETT settings.
• To establish new partnerships on inclusion within PRESETT or expand existing ones.
• to develop policy recommendations to ensure inclusion in PRESETT.
• to propose mechanisms to enhance teaching and learning opportunities in inclusive settings.
The project is expected to be operational from 2025.
