Department History
Organization
The Department of Foreign Languages in Social and Humanities traces its roots to the interfaculty Department of Foreign Languages, founded in 1974. This department established the teaching of English, German and French in all non-philological directions of the university. In the history of this department, which operated as a single structure until 2018, Sharofat Batirova, S. Yakubov, Abdujabbor Boymatov, Omon Isarov, Farhod Norbekov and Abdushukur Rustamov were heads at different times. In 2018, the Department of Foreign Languages was divided into two, and then reunited in 2022 and received its current name. The first head of the department was senior lecturer Zafar Abdullayev, who still heads it today.
Development Stages
In the 1970s and 1980s, the department focused mainly on general foreign language education, but since the 1990s, it has developed specialized courses for various fields. In the 2000s, communicative methods, multimedia tools, and interactive technologies were introduced into the teaching process. In 2018, the department was divided into two separate departments, which increased the quality of education and specialization in areas. In 2022, the reunification created an opportunity to combine experience and resources, update educational programs, and expand preparatory work for international language certificates.
Current activities
Currently, a total of 29 professors and teachers work at the department. Of these, 19 teach English, 8 teach German, and 2 teach French. The department team includes 1 candidate of science, 2 associate professors, 5 senior teachers and 21 interns. The main areas of activity are teaching English, German and French languages using modern methods, using online platforms and multimedia resources in the educational process, preparing students for international language exams, and developing scientific and methodological research.
