Department of Music Education – Center for Musical Culture, Performance Skills and Pedagogical Approaches

The Department of Music Education provides students with in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of musical art, performance skills and methods of musical education. The curriculum covers music theory, solfeggio, choral conducting, vocal, instrumental performance, music history and music education methodology. Students demonstrate their creative potential by participating in concerts, creative evenings and competitions. The scientific activities of the department are aimed at improving musical education methods, studying national and world musical heritage and introducing modern technologies into the educational process. Graduates successfully work as teachers, performers, conductors or music directors in schools, music schools, cultural centers and art institutions.
 



Department History

Organization

The Department of Music Education was established in 1985 at the Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute. Initially, the department operated as part of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Primary Education Methodology and set itself the task of training qualified personnel in the field of music education for secondary schools and cultural institutions. The first leadership was carried out by the famous hafiz, associate professor Alijon Hasanov, who paid great attention not only to improving the quality of education, but also to increasing musical and educational activities.
 

Stages of development

In 1993, senior teacher Abdumannon Mahammatov was appointed to the leadership. In subsequent years, the department was headed by Dilorom Rasulova, Bahodir Ko’ychiyev, Abdusamad Tu’rayev, Berdiyor Kuljonov, Rahmatilla Sarimsakov, Tatyana Kurs, Narzulla Toshtemirov, Ermat Fayzullayev, Nozbuvi Boychayeva, Ismatilla Kudratov, Navbahor Hasanova, Abdurasul Normatov, Rajab Halimov, Fayzikul Zokirov and Toyir Musayev.
In 2004, the department was divided into three areas: General Music and Teaching Methods, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance. In 2011–2012, Ermat Fayzullayev headed the General Music Department. Later, the departments were again merged and continued their activities as a single Department of Music Education.
 

Current Activities

Currently, the department is headed by senior lecturer Tohir Hakqulov. The team includes 26 professors and teachers: 1 candidate of sciences, 3 associate professors, 15 senior teachers and lecturers, 7 concertmasters. More than 300 bachelor’s and 8 master’s students study in the department. During the training process, practical training is carried out not only in music theory and methodology, but also in instrumental performance, vocal art, and choral performance. Students and graduates regularly participate in republican and international competitions and achieve high results. These include the achievements of Bahromova Sabohat Rustam kizi (Zulfiya Prize, 2005), Zulkhumor Mamarasulzoda (“Nihol” Prize, 2013; “Shuhrat” Medal, 2020), Abdurazzoqova Mehribon Jaloliddin kizi (1st place in the CIS competition, 2023).

The departments were re-united, and a single Department of Music Education was formed.

Students achieved many victories in international and republican competitions, modern musical technologies were introduced into the educational process.
