Department History

Organization

The Department of Mathematics Teaching Methods was established in January 1993 as part of the Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute on the basis of the Departments of Higher Mathematics and Informatics and Fundamentals of Computing. The first head was the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Toychiboy Sobirov, and the activities of the department were focused on methodological improvement of the mathematics teaching process and training of pedagogical personnel. In the early years, the department was staffed by experienced associate professors and young teachers, who were engaged in developing curricula, creating methodological manuals, and systematically organizing practical classes.

Development stages

During 1995–1999, the department was enriched with qualified personnel, and the areas of scientific research expanded. Since 1999, under the leadership of Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev, scientific and methodological activity has intensified, and student scientific circles have begun to operate. In 2001, the departments of Mathematics Teaching Methods and Technical Means of Teaching were merged, and the Department of Physics and Mathematics Teaching Methods was established, which expanded the use of technical means in the educational process. In recent years, the direction of mathematics teaching methods was revived as a separate department. Since the 2010s, interactive methods, multimedia tools, and modern pedagogical technologies have been introduced.

Current activities

Today, the department operates within the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and is one of the leading methodological centers in the republic. The main tasks are to improve the quality of mathematics education, train teachers in modern pedagogical approaches, and adapt curricula to international standards. The faculty of the department uses electronic educational resources, distance learning platforms, virtual laboratories and mobile applications in the educational process. Also, research work is carried out in the areas of algebra and analysis, geometry, mathematical statistics, and the theory of methodology. Students regularly participate in local and international Olympiads, conferences and grant projects.
