Department of Practical English Course – Center for Language Skills, Communication Culture and Global Communication
The Department of Practical English Course prepares students to acquire effective communication, listening comprehension, reading, writing and speaking skills in English. The curriculum covers the basics of modern language teaching methods, speech culture, phonetics, lexicon and grammar. Students consolidate their knowledge through interactive exercises, role-playing games, discussions, projects and presentations. The faculty of the department conducts scientific research on foreign language teaching methods, the use of ICT tools in language learning and intercultural communication. Graduates work as English teachers, translators, specialists in language centers and employees of international organizations.

The Department of Practical English Language Course was established in 2018 and was formed on the basis of the Department of Teaching Methods of English Language and Literature, which was operating at that time. The department was initially headed by Shahnoza Uzoqova from 2018 to 2022. Since 2022, the department has been headed by Associate Professor Sevara Hamidova.
Development Stages
Since the establishment of the department, international cooperation with foreign countries has been established. As a result of cooperation with the Norwich University of Languages and the University of Portsmouth in the UK, professors and teachers have been regularly undergoing internships. In August 2023, 8 teachers of the department underwent a one-month advanced training at Norwich University. At the same time, a member of the department, Gulnoza Ganiyeva, participated in a 7-week advanced training course at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in June-July 2023.
Current activities
The department pays great attention to the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel. Currently, 3 doctoral students are engaged in scientific research. Projects aimed at developing English language education are being implemented within the framework of a state grant. The teacher of the department, Saodat Sodiqova, in collaboration with talented students, developed a mobile application for English for 1st graders called “Easy English Enjoyable” and popularized it through the Play Market. In addition, in collaboration with the US Embassy, free English language teaching was carried out for children from families in need of social protection within the framework of the “English Access Microscholarship Program”.
