Department of Fundamentals of Geography and Economic Knowledge – Center for Global Thinking, Regional Analysis and Economic Knowledge
The Department of Fundamentals of Geography and Economic Knowledge trains personnel with a modern worldview by teaching geographical and economic knowledge in a harmonious manner. The educational process includes the areas of natural geography, economic and social geography, geoinformatics, economic theory and regional analysis. Students participate in practical expeditions, map making, statistical analysis and economic projects. The professors and teachers of the department conduct scientific research on environmental management, regional development, economic resources and educational methodology. International cooperation projects and scientific conferences provide an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and skills. Graduates are successfully working in the fields of geography and economic education, tourism, ecology and management.

Organization
The Department of Geography and Fundamentals of Economic Knowledge was initially established in 1991 as the Department of Fundamentals of Natural Sciences within the Faculty of Pedagogy and Primary Education. The first head was Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Ne’mat Ismatov, and the department’s activities were aimed at methodological teaching of geography and training qualified teachers.
Development stages
In 1992, the biology-geography department was opened separately, and the Department of Geography-Ecology was formed. Since 1996, students have been admitted to the “Fundamentals of Geography and Economic Knowledge” department. In 2004, the geography department was separated as an independent department. In the 2009–2010 academic year, the Departments of Regional Geography and Fundamentals of Geography and Economic Knowledge were merged and began to operate under the name “Geography Teaching Methodology”. In recent years, the volume of scientific research within the department has expanded, and international cooperation has been established.
Current activities
Currently, 15 professors and teachers work at the department. They teach in the specialties “Fundamentals of Geography and Economic Knowledge” at the bachelor’s level, and “Methodology of Teaching Exact and Natural Sciences (Geography)” at the master’s level. The main scientific direction of the department is the topic “Geoecological Problems of the Jizzakh Region and Strategic Approaches to Their Elimination”. Modern technologies, interactive methods, and electronic resources are widely used in the educational process.
