History of Jizzakh State Pedagogical University
On December 30, 1973, by the resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Jizzakh region was formed on the basis of the Jizzakh, Forish, Dostlik, Zamin, Pakhtakor, Mirzachul, Oktyabr (now Zafarabad) districts of the Syrdarya region and the Bakhmal and Gallaorol districts of the Samarkand region.
The rapid development of the region and the increase in the population increased the need for new schools and preschool educational institutions, and thereby qualified teachers. Based on this need, the Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute was established by the government resolution and the order of the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 256 dated August 8, 1974. The services of the outstanding statesman and public figure, writer Sharof Rashidov at the opening of the institute were invaluable.
Initially, the institute had a team of 29 professors and teachers, who taught 425 students studying at the faculties of Uzbek language and literature and mathematics. In 1975, the institute had two faculties and three departments, training personnel in five specialties.
In the subsequent development of the institute, a number of scientists served as rector:
Bozorboy Orinbayev (1974–1986; 1990–1992)
Usmonali Nishonaliyev (1986–1990)
Sodiq Nishonov (1992–1996)
Gofurjon Mukhamedov (1997–2005)
Olimjon Dusmatov (2005–2014)
Bahrom Mamajonov (2004–2005, etc.)
Ne’mat Alimov (2014–2015, etc.)
Abdugani Kholbekov (2015–2020)
Shavkat Sharipov (2020–present)
In 1989, the institute was named after the prominent writer Abdulla Qodiriy. During the years of independence, the material and technical base of the institute was strengthened, new educational buildings, sports facilities, dormitories were built, and the information and resource center was renovated.
Since 2020, under the leadership of Professor Shavkat Sharipov, work has been carried out to increase scientific potential, introduce new areas of education, and expand international cooperation. In 2022, at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the institution was granted the status of a “university”. Since then, new faculties and departments have been opened.
In 2024, Jizzakh State Pedagogical University widely celebrated its 50th anniversary.
