Department of Special Pedagogy – Center for Inclusive Education, Correctional Methods and Social Adaptation

The Department of Special Pedagogy specializes in working with children with disabilities, developing inclusive education and training specialists in correctional pedagogy. The curriculum covers defectology, surdopedagogy, typhlopedagogy, oligophrenopedagogy, speech therapy and rehabilitation methods. Students gain experience through practical training, internships in special educational institutions and the development of individual correctional programs. The department’s scientific research is aimed at the social integration of children with special needs, improving pedagogical approaches and developing modern rehabilitation technologies. Graduates work in special educational institutions, rehabilitation centers and inclusive education projects.

Department History

Establishment

The Department of Special Pedagogy was established in 2007 at the Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute at the same time as the opening of the Defectology department. Initially, it operated under the name “Defectology, Theory and Technologies of Special Psychology”. The first head was the candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Rustam Nurmatov.
 

Development stages

In 2008, Rustam Abdurasulov was appointed as the head, and the curricula and programs were improved. In 2009–2012, Rustam Nurmatov again headed the department. In 2012–2013, Hayitgul Muzaffarova, Ph.D., and in 2013–2018, Ph.D. G’ulom Arifkhodjayev, Ph.D., expanded their scientific research. In 2018–2019, Ph.D. Gulnara Kholboyeva, and in 2019–2020, Gulom Arifkhodjayev again headed the department. From 2020 to the present, Hafiza Akramova has been the head. Over the years, the name of the department has been changed to “Special Pedagogy” and the areas of education have been expanded.
 

Current activities

The department currently employs 22 professors and teachers. The educational process covers such areas as Defectology, Speech Therapy, Surdopedagogy, and Oligophrenopedagogy. At the master’s level, 59 graduate students are studying in the specialty “Special Pedagogy, Defectology (Speech Therapy)”. The department has established international cooperation and joint projects are being implemented with the French INSHEA University and the Mukhtar Avezov University of Kazakhstan.

2008

2013
Candidate of Medical Sciences G'ulom Arifkhodjayev became the head, and the areas of scientific research expanded.
2018
Gulnara Kholboyeva headed the department, the areas of education were improved.
2020
Hafiza Akramova was appointed head, international cooperation projects were launched.
