Department of General Psychology – Center for the Study of the Human Psyche, Psychodiagnostics and Applied Psychology
The Department of General Psychology prepares students for an in-depth study of the development, processes of activity and the laws of behavior of the human psyche. The curriculum covers general psychology, personality psychology, theory of perception, thinking, emotions and motivation, psychodiagnostics and psychocorrection methods. In practical classes, students acquire the skills of conducting psychological tests, interviewing, providing psychological counseling and working with a group. The department’s scientific research is aimed at studying psychological factors in human development, stress and adaptation mechanisms, and improving the system of psychological support. Graduates are successfully working in the fields of school, higher education, medicine, social service and consulting.

Establishment
The Department of General Psychology was established in 1974 at the Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute and initially operated as part of the Department of “Pedagogy and Psychology”. In 1990, it was separated as an independent Department of “Psychology”, headed by Associate Professor Kholmat Shodiev.
Development stages
In 2006, Associate Professor Yorkul Alimkulov was appointed as the head. In 2015, the department was merged with General Pedagogy, but on October 2, 2018, it was reorganized again as an independent Department of “General Psychology” and Rohila Atamurodova was appointed as the head. Since August 2020, the department has been transferred to the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology, and the head is senior lecturer Shirin Kamolova.
Current activities
The department currently employs 35 professors and teachers, one of whom is a Doctor of Science, several have a PhD degree. The department trains bachelor’s and master’s students in psychology. Starting in 2021, a master’s degree in Psychology will be opened, taught by experienced teachers such as Rustam Abdurasulov. Modern psychodiagnostic methods, practical psychological training, and interactive teaching methods are used in the educational process.
