Department of Sports Teaching Methods – Center for Practical Training and Methodological Approaches in Sports
The Department of Sports Teaching Methods organizes an educational process that combines practical skills, coaching skills and theoretical knowledge in teaching sports. The curriculum covers football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, gymnastics, wrestling and other sports. Students have the opportunity to participate in sports training, create methodological developments, organize competitions and referee activities. The department’s scientific research is aimed at improving sports techniques and tactics, improving physical fitness and teaching methods. Graduates work as coaches, referees, sports organizers and physical education specialists.

Organization
The Department of Sports Teaching Methods was established in 1976 as part of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, and in the early years, sports training was mainly focused on general physical training and practical aspects of sports. One of the first leaders was Associate Professor Turgun Kholdorov, who headed the department until 1990.
Development stages
In 1990–1996, senior teacher Shaykhiddin Hasanov led the department, and the activities of sports clubs were expanded. In 1996–1999, under Tursun Hayitov, preparatory work for competitions was intensified. In 1999–2012, under the leadership of Ph.D., Associate Professor Akbar Sodikov, scientific and methodological work developed, and students began to actively participate in republican and international sports competitions. In 2012–2015, Usmon Shokirov headed the department, in 2015–2018 again A. Sodiqov, in 2018–2019 Turdimurod Aliqulov, in 2019–2023 Associate Professor Bakhtiyor Sultanov headed the department. From 2023, Associate Professor Alisher Olimov, PhD, was appointed head.
Current activities
The department trains bachelors in physical education and sports and specialists in special types of sports activities. Currently, the faculty includes specialists with PhD degrees, international masters of sports, national referees and licensed coaches. Students participate in major competitions such as the Universiade and the Student League, achieving high results. The department has sports clubs such as volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, judo, sambo, and belt wrestling. In recent years, the volleyball team of “JDPU Ziyokor” has become a winner and prize-winner in republican competitions.
