Department History

Establishment

The Russian Language and Literature Department at Jizzakh State Pedagogical University first began its work in 1974 as a separate department within the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature. At that time, the Department of Russian Language and Literature was established, and its first head was the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Nusratulla Safarov. The department taught Russian to students of all departments of the university. In 1976, the department was given the status of a separate faculty, and in the 1977–1978 academic year, the educational process was fully established. Since 1978, it has operated as the Department of “Russian Language and General Linguistics”, headed by such outstanding specialists as S.A. Artyomov, Gulaysha Kalnazarova, Shukurullo Mardonov, Umirboy Pirnazarov, and Abduvahob Zokirov.

Development stages

In the early 1990s, the department focused on scientific and methodological work, improving curricula and creating new methodological manuals. With the establishment of the Faculty of Foreign Languages in 1998, the department underwent structural changes and continued its activities within the faculty. Since 2011, Umirboy Pirnazarov has been working at the department as an associate professor. During this period, the teachers of the department regularly participated in republican and international conferences, published scientific articles, monographs, and teaching and methodological manuals.
