Online Reception of the Head of Department

Department of Biology and Teaching Methods – a center for ecological thinking, scientific research and innovative education

The Department of Biology and Teaching Methods specializes in training personnel with in-depth knowledge in the field of natural sciences and the ability to apply modern pedagogical methods. The educational process covers such areas as botany, zoology, physiology, genetics, ecology and biotechnology. In classes, theoretical knowledge is combined with practical laboratory work, field research and interactive methods. Students actively participate in ecological projects, biological research and science olympiads. The professors and teachers of the department conduct scientific research on the preservation of biodiversity, ecological sustainability and biology teaching methods. Modernly equipped laboratories, field training bases and international cooperation projects allow students to gain practical experience. Graduates of the department successfully work in schools, colleges, higher educational institutions and scientific centers.

Department History

Establishment

The Department of Biology and Methods of Teaching Biology traces its roots back to the time when students were first admitted to the biology department in 1979. At that time, the biology department was part of the “Fundamentals of Natural Science” department, and its first head was the candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Toshtemir Boykobilov. Over the years, the department has changed its name several times and created new departments, but its main task — training qualified biologists — has always remained a priority.

Development stages

During the 1980s–2000s, the department was headed by such famous scientists as Murod Rasulov, Said Esonkulov, and Khudargan Mavlonov. In 1997, a separate “Biology and Methods of Teaching Biology” department was established on the basis of the “Fundamentals of Natural Science” department. In 2012, it was merged with the Department of “Protection of Human Vital Activity” and was renamed “Biology and Methods of Teaching It”. The department became famous not only for training teachers, but also for creating a scientific school in the field of botany, conducting scientific seminars, and publishing textbooks and manuals.

Today’s activities

Today, the department trains specialists at the bachelor’s, master’s and basic doctoral levels. Modern biology laboratories, interactive methods and international cooperation projects are widely used in the educational process. The professors and teachers of the department are authors of textbooks, educational and methodological manuals, and actively participate in republican and international scientific conferences. 9 teachers with scientific degrees, including candidates of biological sciences and young scientists with PhD degrees, make up the main part of the team.
