Faculty history

Establishment

The Faculty of Mathematics was one of the first two faculties established in 1974 when Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute was founded. The first dean appointed was Said Rasulovich Fayziyev, a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences and associate professor. Initially, the faculty’s classrooms were located in the building of what is now the Faculty of Technological Education, later moving to the third floor of the main building.

The Higher Mathematics Department was the first to begin operations within the faculty. It was initially led by Said Rasulovich Fayziyev, followed by Bakhrom Toshmurodov. Classes were conducted with a focus on practical exercises rather than purely theoretical studies. Although the departments lacked sufficient educational and methodological literature in those years, instructors worked diligently to create necessary materials through their own efforts.

Development Stages

From 1975 to 1985, the faculty was led by Bakhrom Toshmurodov, from 1985 to 1987 by Jahongir Rasulov, and from 1987 to 1990 by Orzu Kholbekov. In 1990, Associate Professor Pirnazar Davronov was appointed dean. During this period, new directions were introduced, including informatics, physics, and public education system management.

Starting in 1985, with the introduction of “Informatics and Basics of Computer Technology” as a general education subject in Uzbekistan’s schools, the university began training specialists in this field. Consequently, in 1987, the Department of Informatics and Basics of Computer Technology was established, led by Dostqul Botirov, a candidate of technical sciences and associate professor. The department initially operated with a team of seven members.

From 1993, the faculty was renamed the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and Ne’mat Alimov served as dean for 15 years. In January 1993, the Department of Mathematics Teaching Methodology was established. It was later led by associate professors To‘ychiboy Sobirov, Pirnazar Davronov, Bakhtiyor Ergashev, Islom Suyunov, and Mavluda Nosirova.

Current Activities

Since 2020, the faculty has been operating under the name Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. It is currently located in the building of the former Computer Technologies College in the Sharof Rashidov district.

The faculty comprises the following departments:
Mathematics Teaching Methodology Department
Informatics and Basics of Computer Technology Department

Faculty students have achieved success in numerous national Olympiads and competitions. For example, Sitora Qayumova, Makhliyo Khasanova, Munisa Boboqulova, Aziza Umaraliyeva, Mirzabek Yusupov, and others have secured high rankings in national subject Olympiads.

The current dean is Jamshid Bakhtiyorovich Ergashev, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in pedagogical sciences and associate professor, who, together with the faculty team, conducts educational, scientific, and methodological activities based on modern requirements.
