In recent years, special attention has been given in our country to providing comprehensive support for the older generation, ensuring their active participation in social life, and helping them spend their leisure time meaningfully.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. RQ–167 of March 15, 2022, “On Additional Measures to Support the Elderly and Improve Their Living Standards,” and the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, October 1 is celebrated annually in our country as the “International Day of Older Persons,” while the first week of October is marked as the “Week of the Elderly.”

In this regard, Jizzakh State Pedagogical University is also organizing a series of cultural, educational, and sports events aimed at celebrating the “Week of the Elderly” at a high level and putting into practice the idea of “Respect for the Elderly — an Example for the Youth.”

In particular, on October 6–7 of this year, chess and checkers tournaments were held among the university’s professors, teachers, and staff. During the competitions, participants demonstrated activity, ingenuity, and a spirit of camaraderie. The event not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also served to highlight the experience of respected senior teachers who have made valuable contributions to the university’s development, presenting them as role models for the younger generation.

These events serve as an expression of deep respect and gratitude toward the elderly and play an important role in supporting their active participation in social life.
