Department of General History – a center for in-depth teaching of world history and the formation of historical thinking

The Department of General History trains students as specialists with in-depth knowledge and historical analysis skills in world history, the development of cultures and global processes. The educational process covers the stages from ancient times to modern history. Students study such subjects as source studies, historical geography, and philosophy of history. Lessons are enriched with interactive methods, analysis of historical documents, scientific expeditions, and museum practice. The professors and teachers of the department are active in the creation of historical research, scientific monographs, and textbooks. Graduates successfully work as teachers, researchers, museologists, and in the field of tourism.
 



Department History

Establishment

The roots of the Department of General History date back to the time of the Jizzakh State Pedagogical Institute. At first, it operated as part of the Department of Fundamentals of Marxism-Leninism, later the History of the CPSU and Political Economy. Since 1991, it has been called the Department of Economic Theory. In 1999, it was separated from the Department of History of Uzbekistan as an independent department. The main goal of the department was to familiarize students with world history, the development of civilizations, cultural heritage and historical sources, and to form historical thinking. The first head was Bakhtiyor Mirkomilov, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor.
 

Stages of development

In 1999–2009, Bakhtiyor Mirkomilov, as the head of the department, made a great contribution to increasing its scientific potential. During this period, new disciplines were introduced in the department, textbooks were created, and practical classes were organized for students based on historical sources. In subsequent years, the department was headed by Ph.D. Abdurasul Boltayev. In 2022, PhD Jasur Gafurov became the head of the department. Since 2023, Ph.D., associate professor Akhror Pardayev has been heading it. During these years, the “History” research center has been established at the department, and major local historical works have been published – “Jizzakh – a land of wonders”, “History of the courts of Jizzakh region” and “History of the Kaliya neighborhood”.
 

Current activities

Currently, the department has 16 full-time professors and teachers, of whom 3 are doctors of science, 3 are candidates of science, 3 are doctors of philosophy (PhD), and the total scientific potential is 50%. The department includes the holder of the Order of “Mehnat Shuhrati”, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Faniya Akhmedshina, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Bakhtiyor Mirkomilov, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Rahimboy Yarmatov, Doctor of Philosophy Abdurasul Boltayev, as well as PhD Nargiza Karimova, Dilafro’z Eshbekova, Munira Khojanova, as well as well-known scientists such as PhD. The department is actively working in the areas of international cooperation, research of historical heritage, and improving the scientific potential of young historians. Students regularly participate in historical expeditions, conferences, and scientific competitions, achieving success.

The department “General History” was established, separated from the Department of History of Uzbekistan.
1999–2009
Bakhtiyor Mirkomilov was the head, scientific potential and methodological work expanded.
2009–2022
Abdurasul Boltayev headed the department, new scientific centers were created within the department.
2022
PhD Jasur Gafurov was appointed to the position of head.
2023
Akhror Pardayev became the head of the department, research work and international cooperation reached a new level.
